Official Minutes of The Lions Club of Frederick June 27, 2000 The Lions Club of Frederick held it monthly Board meeting on June 27, 2000 at Perkins Restaurant. The meeting was called to order by Lion President Mel Castle at 12:00 Noon. The following individuals were present: JoAnn Hevey Mel Castle Jenifer Sutton Bill Simmons Joe Foster Blaine Young Charlie Beekley Chris Murray 1. The minutes for the May 25, 2000 Board meeting were approved. 2. The Treasurer reported $3,469.82 in the Administrative Fund and $9,551.94 in the Activities Fund. The May 2000 report was approved. 3. Lion Charlie Beekley has looked into the tax filing status of our Club. Lion JoAnn Hevey is going to look into what would be required to change our status to a 501(c)3 . 4. The Board will meet at Perkins Restaurant on Monday July 24th for the July Board meeting. 5. The final numbers are in for the Golf Tournament. As of 6/8/00 there was a profit of $3,138.50. 6. For the 1999-2000 Budget, The FCC scholarship, Leader Eye Dog, and the United Way have not been dispersed. A motion was made by Lion Chris Murray to not fund the United Way at this time. Lion Charlie Beekley seconded this motion. The Board also recommends not funding this item in future years and dispersing the funds in a way that is more closely related to the mission of the Club. The Board is also considering naming the annual scholarship to FCC in honor of Jack Kushmaul, a long time member, instead of having the money go into the general scholarship fund. This topic will be discussed at the next Board meeting. 7. Lion Bill Simmons reported for the membership committee. He is planning on having a meeting at his home to discuss the best way to find quality members. The average age of our membership is presently 58. Bill mentioned the possibility of a weekend getaway for the Lion who brings in the most members or having a drawing with all Lions entered who sponsor a new member. Lion's International suggests having a Lions Friendship Day in February 2001. This would be a social. Lion Bill is working on this. 8. Lion Joe Craw has requested by letter to have his membership status changed from Active to Affiliate due to personal and business reasons. He still wishes to participate in the Golf Ball Drop ticket sales for our fund-raiser. A motion was made to accept this request with regrets.
