Lions Club of Frederick

Following lunch, Lion President Mel Castle called the meeting to order at 12:20 p.m. on March 25, 2000.

Lion Mel reviewed the plan for the March 30, 2000, induction of Warren Orey as a new regular member of the club, the transfer of the membership of David Poole from the Funkstown Club, and the associate membership of Bill Lynch.

Lion Mel reminded the Board of the dedication of the remodeled baseball field at 9:30 a.m. on April 8, and encouraged members to attend the ceremony.

The Treasurer's report was accepted as printed.  A copy is on file.

Chip Jewell moved and Chris Murray seconded the motion the club donate $230 dollars to the Medical Eye Bank in memory of Lion Byron Thompson.  The motion passed unanimously.  The gift from the club brings the total collected in memory of Lion Thompson to at least $750.  President Mel directed Joe Foster to coordinate the presentation of the gift to the Eye Bank.  Lion Foster  was usual  as eager to  help out and indicated he would plan a program for the near future on the eye bank during which the presentation would be made.

Chip Jewell moved and Joe Craw seconded the motion that $100 be donated to the Francis Scott Key memorial.  The motion passed unanimously.  The presentation of the gift will be coordinated through Lion Tom Summers.

Lions Joe Foster and Charlie Beekley, who had attended the March 23rd meeting of the Golf Tournament Committee, indicated the planning for the event is on target.  Lion Joe Foster displayed a sample of the golf ball drop tickets which will be distributed Thursday, March 30, to the membership.

The Board dissolved to a committee of the whole to discuss the shrinking membership of the club, a concern brought by Lion Bill Simmons.  At the conclusion of the discussion. Lion President Castle, with the approval of the Board, appointed Lion Simmons to chair a membership drive committee, selecting the membership of that committee, and developing a program to stimulate the growth of the club.

The meeting was dismissed at 1:05 p.m.  The next meeting is April 25, 2000.
