Lions Club of Frederick
April 25, 2000

Following lunch, Lion President Mel Castle called the meeting to order at 12:20 p.m.

Those Lions in attendance were:  Mel Castle          Chip Jewell          Chris Murray

Blaine Young             Jean Buchen              JoAnn Hevey

A 13-year-old girl is interested in going to Lions Camp Merrick.  Her family is unable to afford the one-week camp, which is $300.  Lion Mel is going to contact The FSK Lions to see if they would be interested in sponsoring this girl together.

The Board approved a $50 donation to the District Governor's Honorarium.  These funds will come from the administrative account

The Treasurer's report for March 2000 was accepted as printed.  A copy is on file.

Chip Jewell moved and Chris Murray seconded the motion the club donate $230 dollars to the Medical Eye Bank in memory of Lion Byron Thompson at the March Board Meeting.  The motion passed unanimously.  The Board decided to amend the previous motion by making the total donations an even $1000.

Lion Chris Murray reported that the Motorcycle Races are in good order. The flyers are being finalized and should be finished the second week of May.

Lion JoAnn Hevey is working on finding a suitable location to continue our weekly luncheons.  The Silo Factory notified us that they could keep serving us weekly with some changes.  JoAnn is in contact with Dutch's Daughter, TJ Meadows, 44 North, and will be contacting The Elks Club, The Legion, and The Amvets regarding price, menu choices, etc.  A target date of mid May has been set to have final decisions

Lion Bill Simmons discussed ideas to increase membership.  He has established a committee to work on member development and retention.

The Charles V. Main Foundation will be issuing a $1,000 scholarship this year.  Lion Jack Derr, Lion Chip Jewell and Lion Mel Castle are looking at the applicants.

The nominations for the 2000-2001 year were approved.  They are:

The meeting was dismissed at 1:20 p.m.  The next meeting is May 23, 2000.
